    Why Pixels, Not Characters

Google Cuts by Width, Not Letter Count

Most length checkers count characters, which is misleading: "WWWWWWWWWW" and "iiiiiiiiii" are both ten characters but take wildly different space. Google truncates when the rendered text exceeds the available width — roughly 580px for titles and 920px for descriptions on desktop.

This tool measures your actual text in those fonts and shows where the cut lands, so a title that "fits" by character count but overflows in pixels doesn't surprise you in the SERP.

    Google may rewrite it anyway

Google rewrites titles when it believes another version better matches the query. You can't prevent that entirely — but an accurate, well-sized, query-relevant title is the most reliable way to get yours kept. Vague or keyword-stuffed titles get replaced most often.

    FAQ

    Title & Description Questions

How long should a title tag be?
Google truncates by pixel width, not characters. The desktop title area is roughly 580px — usually about 50–60 characters, depending on the letters. Wide characters like W and M eat more space than i or l, so aim for the pixel limit rather than a character count.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 920px on desktop, typically 150–160 characters; mobile shows less. Descriptions aren't a ranking factor but heavily influence click-through, so write for the click and put the important part early in case it's cut.
Will Google use my exact title and description?
Not always — Google rewrites them when it thinks another version better matches the query. A clear, accurate, well-sized title is the best way to make Google keep yours.
    Is my data sent anywhere?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored, or logged by us.
