    Getting the Lengths Right

Google Cuts by Pixels, Not Characters

The familiar "60 characters" rule is an approximation. Google truncates titles by pixel width, so a title in wide capitals cuts off much sooner than one of narrow lowercase letters.

The practical defence is order: put the words that matter at the front, so a cut still leaves the meaning intact. To see the exact truncation point for your title, use our SERP snippet preview, which measures real pixel width.

    You rarely need Twitter tags

X and most platforms fall back to Open Graph when Twitter-specific tags are missing, so og:title, og:description, and og:image cover nearly every case.

The one worth adding is twitter:card set to summary_large_image — it requests the large preview instead of the small thumbnail. That's all this tool adds.

    FAQ

    Meta Tag Questions

How long should a title tag be?
Around 50–60 characters keeps most titles intact. Google truncates by pixel width, not character count, so wide capitals cut off sooner. Put the important words first so a cut still leaves the meaning intact.
Does the meta description affect rankings?
Not a ranking factor, but it heavily influences click-through rate — which decides whether a ranking earns traffic. Google often rewrites it using its own extract. Write one anyway: it's your best chance to control the snippet.
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?
Mostly no. Platforms fall back to Open Graph when Twitter tags are absent. The one worth adding explicitly is twitter:card as summary_large_image for the large preview format.
What size should the social image be?
1200×630 pixels (1.91:1) is the reliable default across platforms. Use an absolute URL, keep it under about 5MB, and avoid small text — previews often display at a fraction of full size.
